Skills. Confidence. DAOM.

The Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Program in Orthopedics & Internal Medicine at Emperor’s College provides practitioners of Oriental medicine with advanced didactic and clinical training that is specifically designed to address the needs of today’s diverse patient population. Our multi-specialty approach focuses on key areas of modern health care implementing cutting-edge best practices grounded in tradition.

Program Structure

The DAOM program at Emperor’s College consists of 1,250 total hours – 600 hours of didactic instruction and 650 hours of advanced clinical rotations – completed over the course of eight academic quarters.

Classes meet one extended weekend per month, Thursday through Sunday, for approximately eight hours each day so you can continue your clinical practice while pursuing your degree. Clinical hours are fulfilled through a variety of options throughout the program.

Cohort Model for Maximum Learning

Peer-to-peer learning is one of the largest benefits of the cohort model and we capitalize on this in every way.

Starting a new cohort one time per year that progresses through the program as a cohesive whole ensures the collaborative and supportive environment all practitioners can benefit from. The schedule of monthly intensives taught by distinguished practitioners and scholars in the field provide a central focus for in-depth discussions on patient care and treatment paradigms.

Our cohort model focuses on the development of clinical problem solving skills. Lively discussions and sharing of clinical approaches encourage fellows to challenge assumptions from their master’s training and benefit from the diverse educational backgrounds of their classmates.

The Orthopedics specialty is aimed to provide doctoral fellows with a comprehensive understanding of diagnostic methods and effective treatment modalities for patients suffering from acute and chronic pain. Faculty includes leaders in acupuncture orthopedics and sports medicine such as US Olympic Team acupuncturist Takeshi Komatsu.

Doctoral fellows receive clinical and didactic training in the following two areas of the Orthopedics specialty:

Personalized Clinical Training

At Emperor’s College, doctoral fellows have the unique opportunity to develop a personalized plan for clinical training based on their prior experience, current clinical practice and their educational goals.

We understand the importance for practitioners to shape their advanced clinical training in a way that is beneficial to their careers and that will pave the way for their future success as leaders in the chosen field.

In addition to Internships and Preceptorships, Mentorships are one key element in the personalization of clinical training. Doctoral fellows have the opportunity to mentor under a clinician from a health care field of their choice.
